Black headed white Ibis

Date: 21Novmber2020

Yesterday I was traveling on bike to my native village Brahmangaon from Malegaon. I came over the bridge near Dabhadi. There was grassy land with stored water below the bridge. I was attracted to the birds like cranes.

I stopped and looked at them carefully. I found the birds were looking like cranes but they were not cranes. They were quite larger than the normal cranes and the birds had black heads and necks. I had known about black ibis birds. Black ibis are black. These were white with black heads and curved beaks. So I searched with white Ibis. Many pics about them got in a click. I noticed those birds are black headed  Ibis.

Generally they are known as the oriental white ibis or Indian white Ibis or black head and neck ibis. I became very happy to know the names of birds and the beautiful view of black headed ibis eating or searching for food in those water land areas.

When you know the particular names of birds, you feel honoured.

Normally people are interested in nature. They love trees, mountains, rivers, birds etc. However when people are asked about the species of birds or animals or trees, they are unable to answer. Either they don't know the particular names of birds or trees or they don't want to gather information about them.

Therefore people mostly don't identify birds or trees.

In this case we should develop nature literacy. Being nature literate means being able to identify a particular name of a tree or bird or animal. Knowing their habitats as well as gathering more information about them increases our natural literacy.

I'm very thankful to the internet, especially Wikipedia because it immediately quenches our thirst of unanswered questions.

Thanks to this mayajaal.
